Filming: Day 1

On the first day of filming, I arrived on location at 8AM. Working with an 8 year old, I was aware that my time was limited before his attention span was lost. I resolved to maximise my time whilst he still had energy, so we got to filming straight away. After some initial struggles with the tripod, we got into the swing of things- starting with a few sound recordings. Whilst setting up the microphone, I heard Gideon (my actor) humming quietly to himself. I liked this, and asked him to continue so I could record that to overlay in the scene where he is making himself a sandwich. This really helped to warm him up in a fairly natural, non-intimidating way. I soon realised that with struggles with lighting and attention span, filming all in one day may prove difficult. I decided then to prioritise the indoor shots, as the lighting outside for the day wasn't ideal anyway, and focus on the outdoor shots at a later date if possible. This took some pressure off immediately.
