What is BIFA?
Bifa (British Independant Film Awards) is an organisation that supports independent filmmaking in the UK. Annually, BIFA awards the achievement of both on- and off-screen talent from the independent films of the year.
The awards include: Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Lead Performance, Best Supporting Performance, Best Joint Lead Performance, Best Ensemble Performance, The Douglas Hickox Award (Best Debut Director), Breakthrough Producer, Breakthrough Performance, Best Debut Screenwriter, Best Debut Director – Feature Documentary, The Raindance Discovery Award, Best Feature Documentary, Best British Short Film, Best International Independent Film, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Original Music, Best Make-Up and Hair Design, Best Effects, Best Sound, Best Production Design and The Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Actor to British Film.
Bifa aims to promote independent films to a wider audience to 'develop a rich, inclusive, and sustainable independent film culture in the UK'.
